Here at home in Eugene, Oregon, Jacob is an active advocate for heart health awareness. All around town, Jacob passes out small 1 inch pins that remind people to check their blood pressure because detecting high blood pressure in Jacob saved his life. Jacob is looking forward to February which is National Heart Health Awareness month. Follow Jacobs Heart Story on Facebook and Twitter to show your support, stay CHD aware and receive helpful heart health tips!

Our current efforts for fundraising are aimed at raising funds so Jacob can attend the 2017 Congenital Heart Legislative Conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC next year. He plans to share his story and inspire members of congress to vote for funding that will help advance CHD research.

Here are some of Jacob’s recent advocating efforts:

January 2017-Jacob sent a letter to Lucy Vinis, Mayor of Eugene requesting that February 7th-14th be proclaimed as Congenital Heart Awareness Week in the city of Eugene, Oregon.

February 2016-Jacob volunteered at the 2016 PDX Heart Ball. This event raises over $60,000 annually for heart awareness & research for the American Heart Association.

April 2016-At the Make-A-Wish annual event “Walk for Wishes”, Team Jacob’s Heart Story raised more than $600 to help Make-A-Wish Oregon grant wishes for kids with life threatening illnesses.

May 2016-The Rotary Club of Eugene, Oregon rewarded Jacob $100 for his school & honored him with a plaque for being an “Outstanding Youth in the Community.”

December 2016-Jacob entered a video about his heart story to the American College of Cardiology “Living CardioSmart” contest and won the grand prize – a trip to Washington D.C!

Thanks to the incredible support of our family, friends & neighbors, Jacob will be heading across the country to attend the American College of Cardiology’s 66th Annual Scientific Session and Expo. Jacob plans to share his story with members of congress this March in Washington D.C!

December 2015- Jacob traveled up to Portland, Oregon to give an interview for a Radiothon at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital with 99.5 The Wolf.

Jacob also joined the PhRMA “I’m Not Average” campaign. You can find his story at

November 2015– Jacob attended the Make-A-Wish Ball in Portland, Oregon to help raise money to grant wishes for children in Oregon

October 2015- Jacob’s one-of-a-kind Nike shoes and apparel designs were revealed. Jacob used his designs to share his CHD journey with the world. His designs were auctioned for $17,000 that benefitted OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

September 2015- Jacob went to Sigma Chi, a fraternity house at the University of Oregon to present them with a plaque to honor them for their fundraising and donations to Make-A-Wish. This particular group of guys ‘adopted’ Jacob’s wish, meaning they essentially donated ALL of the funds that went into granting Jacob’s wish to meet the legendary comic creator, Stan Lee in May, 2015.

Jacob is a VERY grateful ‘Wish Kid’ and huge supporter of Make-A-Wish. He is also a proud member of The Mended Little Hearts of Greater Portland chapter.
